Spaces open for COVID-19 quarantine support

1 April, 2020

Inner-city commercial property regeneration specialists Urban Lime has joined the national effort to combat the spread of Covid-19 and opened its commercial, retail and hotel spaces for quarantine and isolation purposes.

This is an effort to ease the strain on South Africa's health system and flatten the curve of the coronavirus. The additional space could also aid the government in encouraging patients to self-isolate outside of their homes. For those who test positive, remaining in their own home is only partially effective as they could easily infect the other members of the family.

The Urban Lime task team has reached out to City and health authorities to determine the most suitable buildings, floors and areas, to ensure that strict health and safety standards implemented by the company can be met, while benefiting from the proximity of amenities and essential services in inner city areas.

CEO of Urban Lime, Jonny Friedman, said: "I am personally engaging with city leaders, health experts and the business community to understand their needs. This requires all parts of society, united in our effort during the national lockdown announced by President Ramaphosa." Urban Lime reaffirmed its commitment to engage companies, agencies and groups outside of government including healthcare providers, non-government organisations and charities.
